The Only Home of Throwed Roles | Print |  E-mail

By: Pat Quade

norm_colorsmall  roll_ani    Ever heard of a restaurant called Lambert’s? I heard of it when I was in Pensacola, FL. I never got to go, but its distinctiveness was widespread. The menu is pretty typical southern fare, the waitstaff had a reputation for being friendly and courteous and the prices were decent, but that’s still not what they were known for. They were known as “The Only Home Of Throwed Rolls”.

Now if you’re a fairly proper type of person I don’t think you’d care much for Lambert’s.  You see, their dinner rolls come to your table via air mail. From what I’ve been told by people in the know, to get a dinner roll you signal one of the staff by raising your hand and immediately they will do their best Roger Clemens (sans the steroids) and pitch a roll to you across the dining area for you to catch. Now that’s unique!

I can see everyone’s minds working overtime right now, playing out strange dinner roll scenarios coupled with major league baseball, Like, what if you miss? You better have a darn good eye and a hand to match or Granny Mildred at the next table is going to be carried to the ER for a dinnerrollectomy! Or, if you pitch so many dinner rolls to someone that they can’t eat, did you pitch a “no dinner”?

Whatever the case, I believe God is doing something very similar in the earth right now. He’s opening up His own version of Lambert’s and His slogan, and the reputation of these dining facilities, will be “The Only Home Of Throwed Roles”. There’s a reason God made all of us, whether we know what that is or not. We have been taught for years that when you meet the Lord, He puts His desires in you and gives you a purpose, a vision, for your life. Yet many in the kingdom who have some understanding, even an inkling, of what they are and what He’s called them to do have found it difficult or impossible to express that purpose in the local church. We are taught that God is molding us into the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers, yet when you try to express the nature of Christ in you (which, by the way, is not just your hope of glory, but the hope of glory for the entire body!), you find another working, a working by the hands of men, trying to mold you into their image and likeness. The result is frustration, doubt about who you are and what you’re to do, and a general loss of identity. The Lord, however, is correcting this. Have you ever noticed that if a Burger King opens on a certain street, a McDonalds and a Wendys will open up close by in a short amount of time? Same thing here. God is placing an alternative right next to the traditional. He’s opening a new restaurant, The Only Home Of Throwed Roles, and if you enter and raise your hand you will find your role in the kingdom given back to you. Even if it seems so far away and it has to cross the entire dining area, God will throw it. Even if you drop it, God will give you another chance.

They key in these new restaurants is that the waitstaff will encourage and allow you to be who you are, not try to mold you into who they are. That is why it will be known as The Only Home Of Throwed Roles” These places will not just be the “house of God”, they will be the home of The Lord and His people. There will be a love and mutual respect offered in these places that you may not have found elsewhere. It will feel like home. It will be a place where who you are and how you function are given honor so that you and the rest of those in the home may grow up into all things in Christ.

The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!" When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?" They said, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?" ”Come," he replied, "and you will see." So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him. (John 1:35 – 39 NIV)

Does this sound like you? Are you wondering where He has gone to so that you may follow? He has gone to His home, a new home that has opened right next to the old one because the old one has served its purpose. This new home has a new menu, the most recognizable item on it being Throwed Roles. Are you hungry? Then ask Him for directions. When you find His home, come in and sit down. Stick your hand up in the air and be prepared to catch your destiny!
